The Secret to Becoming Debt Free
Anyone can easily fall into the trap known as debt. One needs to be able to live in a decent house or apartment, drive a working car, eat at least three times a day and be able to enjoy the comforts that life can offer. If one does not have the means to afford all the luxuries that life has to offer, it is easy to give in to the temptation of getting credit cards and applying for loans and mortgages just to keep up. Before you know it, you are stuck in paying debts and your monthly income can barely cover all the loans and credit card dues that you have to pay. Getting stuck in debt is very easy. Becoming debt free is not. So, what do you have to do if you find yourself in this very sticky situation?
They say that the first step is always the hardest. This is also true when it comes to managing your finances. The first step to becoming debt free is to be able to analyze your expenses and earnings and create a plan that will allow you to spend less than you earn. In order to do this, you would have to list down all your expenses and see if you can let go of a few things. This might mean stepping out of your comfort zone and letting go of some unnecessary luxuries. It may be a bit difficult at first, but if you keep thinking that this will pave your way to becoming debt free, that may make things much easier to handle.
Decreasing your expenses allows you to have some extra funds which you may use to pay off some debts faster. You may also use these funds to make sound investments. However, if decreasing your expenses is not a feasible option, you may have to look for other ways to earn more than what you need to spend. With this option, Becoming debt free means you would either have to look for a better paying job or look for additional sources of income, such as setting up an online or home-based business. This may mean you would have to give up some of your free time. But then again, this would mean that you are getting on the road to becoming debt free and will soon have all the time and money you need to have a comfortable lifestyle.
To summarize, becoming debt free is all about having some leverage. After a few years of relying on your pay check to cover for your bills and debts, you will have the urge to look for better options. Becoming debt free means you will not just have to make ends meet. Rather, you would need to find ways to ensure that you are also able to save enough funds so that you would not have to rely on government funds or social security checks when the time comes that you do not have the ability to work anymore. It may be in the form of decreasing your expenditures, or making additional investments to earn more. It all starts, however, with your decision to start becoming debt free, and making all your subsequent decisions in line with that specific goal or purpose.
